What is cataract?

Cataract is an ophthalmic disease, where a clouding of the lens inside the eye leads to a blurring in vision.
What the symptoms are?

Among the symptoms of cataract are cloudy and reduced vision, deterioration of color quality, gradually reduction in sharp vision and increased difficulty in coping with lights in the night. Various types of cataracts in developing process may indicate variation toward myopia in eyeglass degrees. Further symptoms of cataract are, deterioration of distant vision and improvement of near vision in connection with aforesaid, then deterioration of both distant vision and near vision.

Who may suffer?

Cataract may occur 90% due to biological aging. Development of senile cataract in connection with aging would likely occur in both eyes even though being asymmetrical. It further seems to occur depending upon trauma, systemic diseases such as diabetes or primary eye diseases such as uveitis, and use various medicines for instance steroid and cortisone. Congenital cataract may occur in babies either spontaneously or as the result of factors such as rubella disease suffered or antiviral medicines used by candidate mother at the early stage of pregnancy. During the general examination conducted immediately after birth, the relevant pediatric checks whether baby suffers cataract. Congenital cataract diagnosis is kept under control during the annual periodic controls.
How is cataract diagnosed?

What is the method of treatment? Initial cataract may only be detected upon regular eye examinations. Regular eye control is necessary after 40 years of age, as it is an ophthalmic disease that occurs 90% due to biological aging. The only treatment of cataract is surgery. Treatment through medicines is not possible; as well as no contribution of medicines into prevention or delay of cataract was detected

What is the correct time for treatment of cataract?

It should be treated as soon as diminished vision starts to adversely affect the daily life. Ripening and hardening of the cataract may reduce satisfaction of surgery intervention thus expand process of improvement.

Things to care of prior to cataract surgery

• Meal can be taken on surgery day, provided however it should not be heavy. In some cases (in case of infant age group or if the patient exhibits a special situation) surgery is realized under general anesthesia. In such a case any food either solid or liquid should not be taken at least 6 hours ahead of operation.

• Medicines used for systemic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and asthma should not be suspended for the operation day. Insulin dosage, oral anti-diabetic therapy should all times be followed and respecting diet should be continued. On the day of surgery, it is beneficial for Patient to bring the medicines systematically used.

• Valuable goods  (jewelers, rings and other accessories) should be left at home; these should not be with you during operation.

• It would be appropriate to get a bath prior to coming by for surgery as you would not be able to do so during the initial days following the surgery. Make-up, usage of lotion and perfume should be avoided. Special surgery garments given to you shall be worn during operation for the sake of sterilization
